The second trailer for one of 2014's most anticipated films has emerged recently.
Godzilla is an upcoming film based on the titular monster. It is directed by Gareth Edwards (Sci-Fi/Monster/Indie Film MONSTERS (2010)) and features an all star cast including Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe and more.
The film had been in the early development stages for years, and now it appears the wait will be soon over. This new film promises to be dark, intense, realistic and terrifying, much the opposite to Roland Emmerich's 1998 cheese-fest.
WARNING: This analysis will go in depth into some of the hidden gems and Easter eggs featured in the trailer. Some of these pose possible spoilers for the film. If you are at all sensitive to spoilers, please read on at your own risk.
Now here we go...
The trailer opens with shots showing the aftermath of destruction, accompanied by a riveting voice-over monologue from Bryan Cranston.
In the original classic he was mainly responsible for the Oxygen Destroyer, the device that killed Godzilla in the climax of the movie. His character was concerned that his weapon would be used as a weapon, fearing it would be abused as nuclear power had been. He that essentially summarised the themes of the film. I and the fans assume he will be used in the same way here. Edwards himself stated the film will bear environmental themes, and Watanabe says later in the film that "the arrogance of man is thinking Nature is in their control." I am excited to see what Serizawa brings to the film.
